Absentee Ballot Information

Absentee voting may be accomplished in 2 ways:

1) Voting in person – Absentee voting in-person starts 29 days before an election
Absentee ballots are available before each election from the Election Office in the Court House, 720 Central Avenue, Dubuque or our Elections Annex, 75 Locust Street, Dubuque. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Notices are provided by the local media when ballots are available for a specific election. Absentee ballots cast in person must be completed by 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election.

2) Voting by Mail
Requests can be accepted no earlier than 120-days before an election. Ballots can be mailed 29-days before an election. Persons wishing to request a ballot should print and complete the Iowa Absentee Ballot Request Form from the link above, and mail or hand deliver it to the Election Office at:

Voters wishing to have a ballot mailed to them, must have the request to the Election Office no later then 5:00 p.m. 10-days before the General Election or 11-days before all other Elections.
